Argentina's Government to Grant Discount to State Employees for Joining Strike

Argentina's national government will offer a discount to all state employees who join the ATE national strike on Tuesday. This decision is in response to the protest against the labor reform promoted by the Executive, and includes demands for collective bargaining and opposition to cuts in state agencies.

Argentina's Government to Grant Discount to State Employees for Joining Strike

Buenos Aires, Dec 8 (NA) – The national government will apply the day discount to all state employees who join the national strike called by the State Workers' Association (ATE) for this Tuesday, in rejection of the labor reform promoted by the Executive Branch.

Official sources told the Argentine News Agency after the state workers' union confirmed its decision to hold a rally tomorrow at 11 a.m. in front of the National Congress.

ATE's triple demands and criticism of governors

The ATE strike is based on three main protest axes: rejection of the labor reform, the reopening of collective bargaining (paritarias), and cuts in decentralized agencies.

Additionally, state workers reject possible adjustments that could affect about 10% of workers in agencies such as CONICET, INDEC, ANSeS, INTA, and INTI, among others.

Rodolfo Aguiar, head of ATE National, harshly criticized the provincial leaders who have supported the Executive's proposal: "They will try to impose a regressive reform, but this time the only responsible party will not be Milei. The governors are necessary participants in the biggest attack on all labor rights in democracy".

Labor reform and the government's agenda

The national strike was brought forward after it became known that this December 9, the Government would disclose the text of the labor reform, worked on together with the Council of May.

Although the full details are not yet official, the proposal is expected to seek changes in areas such as vacations, severance pay, and dismissals.

Manuel Adorni, Chief of Cabinet, will be in charge of presenting this and other reforms after a Council of May meeting scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at the Casa Rosada.

The labor modernization initiative is already on the agenda of extraordinary sessions, and the Executive will seek its sanction with support in the Senate.
